In the past, ESA, NASA, Ros-cosmos, and other nation-state entities frequently collaborated in civilian space endeavors. Over time space exploration became increasingly militarized, as the Earth and Luna orbits became avenues for military action. With the rise of the Great Houses and the ongoing tensions between the Earth Trade Organization and the League of Progressive Peoples, calls rose for a unified body defending commerce and travel between the planet. This resulted in the creation of Earth Command.
Individual nation-state and corporate actors still field their own space-faring military forces to pursue their own interests. Especially the China National Space Administration's Armed Forces and Hexacorp's Void Security Details stand out. But all space faring nation's largest space-bound military units go towards the mighty force that is Earth Command.
Earth Command is comprised of three discreet branches:
Earth Naval Fleet
Earth Inter Orbital Marine Corps
Earth Inter Planetary Army
The Naval Fleet at present fields five large carrier ships including accompanying assistant vessels, seven heavy destroyers, and a plethora of smaller cruisers and gunboats.
The IOMC has itself at present one carrier ship, a number of cruisers, and a contingent of troop carriers. The Marines also operate a whole array of forward operating bases that allow for farcasting operatives.
The Inter Planetary Army has bases on **Luna, Mars**, and in the Belt. It operates a fleet of troop transports, but largely relies on naval support for space-borne defense.
Earth Command was dealt a critical blow when the Bracer War wholly destroyed all orbital habitats and space stations in Earth orbits. The space-borne contingents of Earth's collective military might were cut off from its terrestrial supply lines. Communications between Earth Command's headquarters in Western Antarctica and the rest of the Inner Planets was severed for days.
